‘ Media production is dominated by global institutions, which sell their products and service to the nation audience’

I personally agree with this statement. The reason being that in today’s media production world, the film industry is a huge success and is mainly dominated by Hollywood but also British industries such as Film four are involve but take a silent role.

Hollywood’s film industry is so over- powering and defiantly dominates the film industry. There are various reasons why it dominates and one of the reasons is that it has all different kind of Genre movies and it repeats its genre’s so that it is recognisable to the audience and doesn’t confuse the audience every time they go and watch a film. Another way in which they dominate is by using cutting edge technology such as 3D. 3D was first introduced properly 2009 and the movie it was introduced in was Avatar, this film was a big success and grossed 2,783,165,628 not only because of its great concept but also because of its 3D technology, it was seen by millions and was one of the most talked about films.

Attraction is another thing Hollywood dominant in. Hollywood is known for its most attractive actors/actress such as Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom and others. In reality majority of people only watch a film because it has their favourite actor/actress in it. Attraction is something plenty of film industries such as film four don’t have this is because there films are based on reality and do not tend to make up there actors too much where as Hollywood stars look different in nearly every film.

Finally a major reason why Hollywood dominates is because of their huge budget. Hollywood have many box offices and all of these box offices are wealthy. For example Warner Bros. Pictures have there own synergy such as Time Warner, which is the owner of Warner. Bros entertainment. This means that when a movie comes out Warner Bros pictures can count of Warner Bros. entertainment to help them advertise there film.

The British film industry is not as successful as Hollywood. One of Britain film industry is film four. Film four is owned by channel 4. it doesn’t dominate at all and have a lot of major issues and downfalls.

One of the issues are that its budget, which is 10 million. This isn’t even half of Hollywood’s. the fact that its budget is low means that film 4 has to rely on co- production companies such as Fox searchlight pictures which is a Hollywood box office, this is he only way here film will get distributed. An example of his is he film slumdog millionaire which is originally a film4 movie however because of he low budget fox searchlight pictures and Warner Bro. Pictures distributed it for them. To date there hasn’t been a film 4 3D film and the main reason is because of low budget. Film 4 hasn’t specifically got actors/actress they all have new ones so he audience doesn’t get used to there faces and majority of them are not attractive a Hollywood movie stars and this is one of the reason why there films aren’t world wide.
